Peyronies

Post a new topicby Guest on Tue Jul 02, 2002 11:14 pm

I'm 28 years old and I have been diagnosed with Peyronies. I just went to my doctor and he said there is no cure......."just live with it" He said that surgery is way too risky and many things can go wrong. I read your web page on Peyronies Treatments and saw all of the treatments. One of them was Vitamin E and PABA. I also just read a posting and it says that you never heard of Vitamin B as a treatment. PABA is a form of Vitamin B. So....my question is...do you read what is posted on the web page? and is it true? If so, how much Vitamin E and PABA is recommended? (i.e., mg/i.u.) Because I'm ready to take a bottle a day, if it works. And please dont direct me to Alternative Medicine.com like the other guy, because the PABA and the Vitamin E was explained in conventional treatments.

The fact that PABA (Aminobenzoate Potassium) is considered a member of the vitamin B complex was news to me. Thank you.
I did not write that section.

From the PDR (Potaba = PABA):

“The average adult daily dose of POTABA® is 12 grams, usually given in four to six divided doses. Tablets and capsules 0.5 gram are given at the rate of 4 tablets or capsules 6 times daily, or 6 given four times daily, usually with meals, and at bed-time with a snack. Tablets must be dissolved in an adequate amount of liquid to prevent gastrointestinal upset.

While some practitioners have had good results with varying doses of both agents, many of us are not convinced either is particularly efficacious, and are careful not to use these them at such high dosages due to possible adverse effects.
Please check with your doctor for personal guidance re indication and dosing.

Yes, a good Vitamin B complex formula will include paba. However, with typical amounts of 100 mg per pill, it falls well short of the recommended 12 g per day for the treatment of Peyronies. Thus, "Vitamin B" is not a treatment for Peyronies, even though it contains paba.

Vitamin E is a great vitamin and one all of us should be taking. Typical daily doses are in the 400 IU range. I would be little concerned about taking too much of this vitamin, and I certainly would not take more than the suggested 6 pills for very long. For one, it is unlike that Vitamin E will help at all, and taking this much for too long can lead to toxicity. Remember, this is a fat soluable vitamin and is not excreted from the body. So, whatever you don't use stays behind and builds up. Even without Peyronies, taking one or two vitamin E pills a day is a wonderful idea as it protects against so many things.

You don't state how severe your Peyronies is, but if it gets too bad, then you may wish to see a different urologist having more clinical experience with Peyronies (though your current doctor may simply feel you have a mild case which is not worthy of surgery). While penile surgery is never fun, and it will reduce your length somewhat, in skilled hands you have an excellent chance for a good outcome. I mean, if the disease is so bad that you cannot have intercourse without pain or difficulty, you really don't have all that much to lose.
