This is really a terrible Disease.Hey guys, it's probably the only thing we have in common with Bill Clinton.
I just joined this group today. I have watched this scar tissue begin to build and get worse over the last 2 years. Last January I had a cancer scare and it was then that my Dr. diagnosed this as Peyronies. What surprises me is that I have had no pain associated with it, and no curvature. I would be elated with a 5" erection, but unfortunately that is where I started. So I don't have to go any further with my explanation about size. My wife and I are able to satisfy ourselves "electronically," but that sure is not what I thought we'd be doing. What is a real character buster and ego deflator however is trying to keep Jr covered at all times while amongst the other guys at the club after workouts outs while in the sauna and whirlpool. My Uro did show me some material regarding two different types of prosthetic penis's. He did say it would have to be done by a specialist, not just the run of the mill surgeon Last year at this time I was so happy to be diagnosed cancer free, that I was kind of overlooking the fact that while naked I looked like a 7 year old, a poorly hung one at that. However, now that I've lost even more in length I am giving some serious thought to the surgery. Can anyone discuss at greater length the surgcal pluses and minuses? I think I'm ready. HAPPY NEW YEAR GJR
Re: This is really a terrible Disease. Many patients with Peyronie's Disease experience much of the same feelings that you have.
There are a variety of options from pills, topical ointments, surgeries and penile prosthesis operations. There are many factors that go into deciding what is the most appropriate choice for you. In addition, men who have had prostate cancer surgery often feel that they have lost some penile length. Consider what your urologist has to offer and if he/she would not do the prosthesis surgery themself then perhaps an evaluation by the surgeon who would do such is most appropriate.
Re: This is really a terrible Disease. This happened to me, out of nowhere in 2005. It is depressing because I hate how it looks and recall the days when my erections were straight and quite nice (I'm not crowing here) ;)
Surgery seems extreme to me. I have to believe that non invasive treatments are effective. At one website, it was suggested that one should seek a urologist who specializes in this disease. But how do you find one who does? To the original poster, 4GeorgeJr, I have no wish to be rude, but I was wondering how old you are. This happened to me as I approaching my 45th birthday - I just wonder if I waited too long. Bladderdoc, if you read this, I would appreciate your input and thank you in advance. Happy New Year to you as well, 4Georgejr and to the good doctor. May it be good to all of us!
Re: This is really a terrible Disease.Hello Johnmike59.
Not being rude at all. I am 62. This scarring tissue started out as a hard "pea" like bump at the base of the penis. I continued to feel it as it kind of flattend out. I had a cancer scare about a year ago and ended up at hte Uro's office and aske him to feel what was now scar tissue type build up. It was he who diagnosed it as Peyronies. He said it could continue grow, which it has, as my penis has continued to shrink; something that I could not afford to begin with, or it could stop even reverse itself, which he doubted would happen. He talked about surgery to install one of 2 types of implants which I have not explored as of yet, but I am not ruling it out. Keep me posted, and good luck. 4gjr
Re: This is really a terrible Disease. Thanks for the response, 4gj!. I will turn 50 later this year, so I really should see a urologist anyway. Good luck to you as well. Keep your chin up and don't despair. If surgery is viable for you, do it. Keep me posted as well. Take care!
Re: This is really a terrible Disease. The key to all non-surgical treatments are patience and realistic expectations. Depending on the degree of curvature the ability of the treatment to return the penis to "normal" is variable. Most urologist have some experience with this. It may take a couple visits to different urologists to find one you are comfortable with who also provides the full spectrum of treatment options.
Penile implants may be appropriate for if you have both erectile dysfunction and Peyronie's.
Re: This is really a terrible Disease.Hello Johnmike 59.
Not rude at all my friend. I am 63 but this problem arose all of a sudden about 3 years ago. Started as a little hard, pea shaped and sized nodule on the shaft of the penis. I just kept getting large and larger and the Dr, Just said it isn't cancer. Never diagnosed as Peyronie's until I saw a UO for another reason. I have no no curvature however, just the scar tissue down low on the shaft which has decreased the length by about 2" and I had none to spare believe me. Hope things are well with you. George
