Biopsy Report InterpretationMy biopsy report reflects adenocarcinoma in one of three and one of four biopsies of less than 3% and two with the notation of focal glandular atrophy. The Gleason is 6, (3+3) on both. What exactly does this mean I have not been able to find an interpretation on the internet that makes sense to me. My uroglogist advised me this means cancer and a need for surgery. I have decided to use Cyberknife instead.
Re: Biopsy Report InterpretationGleason has two meanings. the gleason grade is the examination by the pathologist and he rates the tumor, he/she assigns a grade to the different cellular appearances of the tumor. the Gleaon score is the sum of the two most prevalent grades. In your case is seems to be all, or nearly all, grade 3, so 3 + 3 = 6. this indicates an early stage tumor. what was your PSA? I think you still have time to investigate alternatives. I had a Gleason score of 3 + 3 = 6, and PSA of 6.5 almost 7 years ago. I have been on watchful waiting, although I have been very busy with learning, supplements, exercise, etc. I had 8 cores and the tumor was a small portion of one core. The cores and the pathologists report are really yours so insist on a copy. If it was a marginal call insist that the cores be evaluated by another pathologist. I go to the Prostate Institute of America once per year where an advanced imaging technique known as Color Doppler Ultrasound is used. This method looks at the blood flow around the tumor and so far I have been comfortable with my approach. However, there seems to be changes taking place in my prostate now, so I am investigating treatment alternatives.
