Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 03, 2001 12:12 pm

My far-in-law had his prostate removed over two years ago. He n underwent radiation rapy to eliminate cancerous cells still in a of prostate. His PSA count dropped stayed low about two years has in last few months increased each monthly checkup. His cancer is an 8, perhaps a 9, according to one doctor, on Gleason scale. Two doctors have basically said his cancer is incurable. is chemorapy not a treatment option at point him?

If the tumor has returned it is most likely metastatic and would be considered not curable by todays conventional therapies. If he is not having symptoms then therapy has not been shown to improve survival and chemotherapy would be reserved until such time as he began experiencing symptoms. However, hormonal therapy may be used and I would suggest that you speak with the physician to find out if he is on hormonal therapy at this time. thank you for using oncologychannel and good luck.
