Doctor does not agreeHi,
I am a patient with high PSA (127) and my urologist performed biopsy with a positive result for prostate cancer tissue. Later on last week, a body scan and bone scan was also done and it was discovered that there is no infection to the bones and nearby organs. I am 77 year old man. My doctor recommends that both testacles need to be removed as they produce the hormone that gives fuel to the growth of the cancer tissue. I want to remove the complete prostate gland along with the cancer tissue by performing prostatectomy. He does not agree. Can you please advise? Thank you very much. Re: Doctor does not agreeWith a decision to make of this consequence why not find another urologist and give him the result of your biopsy and get a second opinion.
Having gone through treatment for PCa I have come to some conclusions about doctors. You know how long it takes to get an appointment with busy doctors. You know most of their time is spent with a patient and/or treating a patient with their expertise. A urologist who specializes in surgery knows surgery, or radiation, etc... It is a rare doctor who practices all aspects of treatment for a disease. They will study their expertise and lightly study competing solutions. Like most of us they often look only for affirmation they are practicing the best solution. Rarely are doctors well versed in what they don't practice. Knowing that you have to be willing to study your alternatives and not be to dependent on a current doctor. I am no doctor, but the recommendation of your doctor sounds extreme. I would want to explore alternatives. If it is acceptable to the moderators you are welcome to visit my blog of my experience with treatment of PCa http://panajar.blogspot.com/
