Father with PSA of 5.9My father is 72 and his psa last year was 3.8. Two weeks ago I got the news his psa is 5.9. We went to see an Urologist and his having a biopsy on the 22nd. I'm scared for him. I'm the only child and I take care of my parents. We are very close. How long does it take to get the results and start treatment in general?
Re: Father with PSA of 5.9I was diagnosed and treated within a month, but it all depends on what your dad decides. Use this time to learn all you can. If the biopsy shows only a few cores with cancer he may not need anything at all, as prostate cancer is so slow growing. His PSA is really low, but the last years rise looks like cancer, but it may take 20 years to be a painful situation. Asses his overall health as I know a guy who is 92, and he would say he wants to be 93!
I chose HIFU, as it has the least possibilty of side effects, your dad's sats are well within range to go HIFU, but because it isn't FDA approved yet he would need to leave the country to have it done, many USA doctors provide this service in Mexico, it costs $25,000. How was his biopsy results? Good luck.
