My dad was just dxdMy dad is 68 and we just got his resulted his PSA was 42 and Gleason was 7. He goes today for CT scans. can anyone tell me if they seen positive results from these types of reading. I really need a pick me up. My mom just passed away June 26, 2008 unexpected so I'm very up set at this moment but want to stay positive for him. Any advise would be wonderful.

Re: My dad was just dxdI guess the only positive that I can think of, it's to consider how fast he got to PSA of 42. If his PSA has always been high, then that's good, if it was 8 a couple years ago then he has to move fast...as prostate cancer is the slowest growing of all cancers I'm hoping his has moved up slowly. A 7 Gleason is not that high, but not in the low risk area either.
Just stay on it, this is the cancer we men can survive. Best of luck
Re: My dad was just dxdHis PSA was 19.4 in November. But his doctor didn't call us. My dad actually had to call them and find out what his doctor visit had showed. He called in Jan. (Mid Jan) and we were sent to another doctor for the test. He goes today, in 30 minutes actually for CT's. It went from 19.4 to 44 when we went to the specialest then when we went back last week for the test it had dropped to 42. We meet with his doctor Thursday to go over everything.
Thanks for you input it does give me hope. Angie, SC
Re: My dad was just dxdHi Angie,
Sorry to hear about the recent PSA rise for your father. I think the first thing you both need to is fire his Doctor. Then you need to figure out if the Prostate Cancer is still organ confined(has is spread outside of the prostate). Honestly, a CT is not the best test for this. Some other options would be, a Bone Scan, A PET Scan or an MRI of the Prostate, preferably on a 3T magnet. The reason I say this is because the treatment options are different if the Cancer has broken through the Prostate capsule. Next, we need to figure out what, if any supplements he's taking, since some supplements that may be good for the Prostate have an adverse affect if Cancer is present. Also, Diet is huge in helping to control Cancer growth, for instance, sugar has the same affect as pouring gasoline on a fire. Has he had any other tests and what are the results? Good luck and remember, Your not alone...Craig
