prostate biopsy and ultra sound

Post a new topicby phildeno1 on Tue Jun 16, 2009 6:24 am

i have had a digital exam and the urologist has set appt. for the biopsy and ultrasound. i have been told that the procedure is very painful. why don't they but you under general anesthesia? why do they but you on a local. Valium?
Has anyone else out there thought about this.... and if so.... how do you find someone who will do the procedure under a general anesthesia?

I was given a local anethesia, I assume this is typical.
I didn't find it very painful at all. I supose it depends on the doctor, but I've had two biopsies, and neither was a problem. Yes, you know it has happened, and I was sore sitting down for a while, but nothing else.

good luck!

I had my biopsy done twice under general and felt nothing. A friend of mine had his under local and said the only painful part was when the froze the area with lidocaine. After that he felt nothing.
good luck

I just saw your post so by now you probably had your biopsy and diagnosis. How did it go? I'm about to finish up my radiation treatments.

Yes, had the biopsy and ultrasound. the results came back negative.... so i quess i am relieved, but i have a slower stream now when i piss and i don't have much of a sex drive? I quess that's because I had blood clots and probably need to heal more before i get back to normal? We will see, since now it's after the fact. the good news is i don't have prostate cancer.... we'll jsut leave it at that. Life goes on... doesn't it?

The sex drive issue is quite a concern of mine as well. I finished radiation a week ago and I know it'll be a long time before my prostate shrinks though I can't wait. I'm tired of having to use the rest room twice a night and with a small stream even though I've been on Flomax for a few months.
