Prostate question

Post a new topicby Pat Johnson on Fri Feb 15, 2008 11:01 am

Hi Guys

At age 54 I have joined the club. Two months ago I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer I had a PSA of 4.7 and a Gleeson score of 7. My Urologist gave me a DRE. He could feel no sign of any tumor/s.He sent me for a bone scan and an ultrasound. Both came up clear. I underwent a biopsy. The TRUS
showed no signs of tumor. 18 needles were used . The needles showed 3 tumors hence my Gleeson score of 7. The specialist told me the tumors were very small and that there was only very slight swelling of the prostate. He informed me the cancer is localised. He recommended a radical prostatectomy.
About two weeks ago I developed swelling in the anus. The pain is quite chronic. When sitting down I can feel the swelling. I am due to have my operation next week. Im fearful that the cancer has spread into my lymph nodes. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks
Pat from Australia

Hello Pat,

I wouldn't worry too much about the rectal discomfort which is probably due to the biopsy or a minor infection. Consult your Urologist about this, it may require treatment before the surgery.

Good luck.
