I am 50 and never heard anyone talk of something like this before. I had painless hematuria (blood in the urine, without pain) one day without warning. I was shocked and concerned. It was fairly significant, so I went to the doctor. I was told that, because my urine flow appeared to be clear, with blood only at the end, that this was most likely prostatitis I was put on Cipro, an antibiotic, for 10 days. Painless blood in the urine is NOT prostatitis. Hematuria is quite common and usually means nothing at all. However, it could be something nasty like prostate or bladder cancer, inter alia, so one should have it checked out, as you did.
