Prostatitis???

Post a new topicby livingwith on Mon May 05, 2008 3:38 pm

I have been having some minor pain while I urinate for 6 months now. It started with a slight “twinge” when I urinated and was at its worst three days before Christmas. On that day, I had pain in my kidneys and had to go to a walk-in medical facility. The doctor there performed a urine culture and found micro-scopic blood in the urine. He thought I might have kidney stones and prescribed anti-biotics and pain killers and told me to keep my appointment with the Uriologist. Since ...Read the full article

I was diagnosed with prostatitis and put on cipro 3 day later they changed me to trimeth/sulfa these are two different kinds of antibiotics. I began burning when I urinated, pressure in my bladder when it filled, and pain and stiffness in my back.I also had pain when I sat down along with a sensation and sometimes it hurt under my scrotum. I have been on these antibiotics for 3 weeks and these symptoms still come and go. if that helps you any.

Hi,
If you haven't seen any results in 6 months after taking all these antibiotics, your doctor, as many doctors have no clue what is going on sometimes. When they can't find the answer they start their own theories. I went through hell for over a year with a urologist who just kept feeding me Ciproxin for nearly seven months without any results. You could damage your kidneys. Some bacterias as that of NGU is quite difficult to detect. If the microbiologist is not experienced enough it cannot be identified. Have you had unprotected sexual relationships before this problem started? A major cause of prostatitis is chlamydia or NGU as it would be referred to for a male. Try get a culture for urethral fluid at a trustworthy lab to check for NGU. The best cure for NGU is tetracycline for about 10 days. This bacteria may not show up in the prostate fluid so try a culture with urethral fluid if you already haven't. Also suggest a medication called CYCYSTAT (very expensive). It's a form of liquid therapy with a catheter. You go once a week for this therapy maybe 6-9 times. Trust me I know what Im talking about. Find a urologist that comes highly recommended. Or one that is very experienced. These things are tricky sometimes.
I wish you luck.
Write back and tell me how it goes.

Candida Syndrome can cause prostatitis. Overuse of antibiotics can cause an overgrowth of candida (yeast) throughout the body. Do some research on this, you may be able to help your prostatitis symptoms by focusing on this.

Sorry, but because I have researched this problem to the fullest extent, and have come into contact with professors of urology. The most likely cause for prostatitis is an STD. Candida because of antibiotics is very rare in males, and doesn't cause such painful symptoms. The worst it could get is some itchy sensations, but that's the worst it can get. Plus candida is very detectable. Some STD's such as chlamydia are difficult to detect, as the microbiologist has to be highly trained to detect it. Trust me, it's true. Anyways, ciproxin, just so one knows is not a "killer" antibiotic, at best it can cure a UTI, but in bacterial infections tetracyline is the way to go. Good luck to all, and if you see that your pain and symptoms aren't going away, get a second opinion. Trust me, I have been through hell and back with similar problems, and only one great doctor helped me. If worse comes to worse get a cystioscopic examination to see what's going on.

Best of luck.

Like I said do some research on it and see for yourself. Overuse of antibiotics can cause all kinds of symptoms including mimicing prostatitis. I am not saying this is his problem, but it is something he might want to look into since nothing else seems to be working.
