Do I have Chronic Prostatitis?

Post a new topicby 23jw on Thu May 29, 2008 2:52 pm

I am now 32 yrs old, was diagnosed with CP at 28. However, I have no pain symptoms to go along with all the urinary problems. I have to urinate with high frequency and the toughest part is getting up at night to go. I typically get up once but some night 2 or 3 times. I also get night time erections frequently, that I assume are associated with the urination? Sometimes I will wake with an erection and not even have to urinate though?? Maybe a muscle memory thing??

I have been seeing a uro since the beginning and have taken a myriad of drugs with no positive results. The only thing that slows it down is elavil (amitriptiline). Aleve can also help reduce inflammation and symptoms. I get these "attacks" (I call them), where I will literally feel the prostate swell and then have to urinate every 20 minutes or so for a couple hours. Basically seems like my body is forcing water out as fast as possible. I have tried eliminating alcohol, caffiene, etc with hardly any success. A bottle of water drank to quickly can bring it on just as easily...

Most people who post regarding CP seem to always have pain assocaited with it? I have no pain and am confused as to what I may be dealing with? Can Chronis Prostatitis be painless?

Thanks for any insight!

a few things. first of all, i've got similar problems, symptoms, etc. no pain, have to urinate frequently at night. i've been on elavil: it helped, but ruined my life. there are a few things i would suggest. One, i hate to say this, but your urologist probably doesn't have a clue as to what's actually wrong with you, and if they did, they would have cured. thus, it's gonna be up to you. this is my own experience, and this has been corroborated by many people, including the folks at prostatitis.org. I don't know your doctor, but if you've been seeing him for years, and he hasn't even figured out the diagnosis, you need to lose him. i've never heard of your prostate palpably swelling, that, admittedly is a new one on me. But TRY many urologists. for some reason, they don't seem to care so much about this disease or how it grossly effects your life. Keep going. try everything you can. i've recently had some improvement with flomax. Maybe you could get on some anti-inflammatories. Something is causing your problem, and something is going to cure it or at least make the symptoms significantly less problematic. But it's up to you, sadly, rather than modern medicine, to figure that out. Good luck.

thanks for the reply! How did elavil ruin your life? Side Effects? I would love to discuss this with you, let me know how I can contact you or just reply here.

Thanks again!
