doctors baffled: prostatitis or stricture??

Post a new topicby jonyork on Fri May 23, 2008 1:24 am

I'm 24 years old and have had enough with urologists. I started seeing a doctor 5 months ago for difficulty emptying my bladder. It has always taken me longer to urinate that what i perceived as normal even as a teenager, but i suppose the condition advanced, and then it began to severely interfere with my life. about 6 months ago, the sexual side effects began. I sensed a loss of sex drive, and I also stopped producing pre-ejaculate. I was treated ineffectively for prostatitis through several different rounds of antibiotics, massages, tricyclics, etc... nothing. i just went back to another urologist and they said that they thought the problem was not the prostate--that the prostate was only 'slighly' swollen and that 'it would be a stretch' to say that it is enlarged. Thus, they want to perform a cystoscopy a costly and painful procedure, to rule out the possibility of a stricture. YET, they say, the stricture would not explain the sexual side effects. So, I basically am equally as confused as when i first sat foot in the doctor's office and am constantly haunted by the feeling that i actually know more about what's going on than the urologists and that they are simply taking blind stabs at what is actually the problem, seeing as how they have not even managed to identify what organ is actually to blame.

I'm interested in your post because I too have always felt it took an unnessary amount of time for me to start urinating (sometimes 1..maybe 2 minutes..) But my flow has always been normal and full. Well..I'm 25..and about a month ago..for the first time..I did not get an erection when I went to have sex with my wife (I've been active since 17..first time I'm certain that never achieved erection) Also noticed sex drive is twindling..and no more "natural" erections throughout the day or at the drop of the hat. Then..two weeks later..bladder felt really full..even after I urinated. Also felt some dull pains near right testicle but not really in it. Sometimes I could achieve an erection..but either it took for ever to ejaculate..or it took no time at all..or sex was just lackluster because of the firmness of the erection. Anyway..seen a PA..found small amount of blood (not visable) but no bacteria....so did Ultrasound of Kidneys and Bladder (it was fine) said I probably had Epididymitis and gave two weeks of Bactrium. Symptoms improved for about week and a half...then came back with the bladder fullness again lasting about 3 days....Went back to PA....did another Urinalysis...even smaller amount of blood..so went to Urologist to check prostate..thought I would die...but he said it was fine..and acted like I was young and would live..blah blah..and maybe I had some prostatis..but no medicine or anything.. now my symptoms really come and go..some days my penis twitches with spasms..other days I have to urinate about every 2 hours (I normally urinated about every 3 1/2-4 hours)..other days I feel dull pain kind of like a pulled muscle near the testicles..and its a shot in the park to know what the sex will be like or if there will be sex. I don't know..I don't drink or smoke..and I'm not overwieght..I was happen with stats like that I wouldn't have to worry about these sort of things up until my 50s or 60s..or 40s at worse...but I feel like a wreck at 25..good luck..and if you have these same issues and find a cure...or a lot of relief...let me know please..I will do the same!
