Exactly how pain ful is a cystoscopy?

Post a new topicby brewer362 on Fri Jun 13, 2008 7:47 am

I am going to a Uro for the first time on July 1st. I am 42 yoa. I don't know if I have prostatis, but from reading some of the posts here it seems that I might. I have been on Doxycycline and it helped the symptoms. When I quit taking it they came back. I was then given a shot of Rossefin (sp) and a Z pack to be taken all at once. After about three days I was symptom free. The yesterday I had to do some work on our small farm. I rode a tractor for about six hours (alot of bouncing) and then practiced with my daughters softball team later in the evening. About eight pm I started feeling that pernial pain and my uretha hurt a little. I took a Lortab ( which I don't like to do) and my normal Zinc and saw palmetto and feel a bit better this morning I never have the urgency feeling that some men talk about. Anyway, when I go to the Uro I think he may want to do a cystoscopy eventually. I am a little nervous about this since I have never had one before. What are the normal sedation techniques? How painful is the exam? How lang does the pain last after the exam? Any insight to my condition and this exam would be appreciated. Sorry for rambling.

I just had one done and its sucks. It lasted about 2 minutes. It was extremely uncomfortable. They used the rigid tube on me. I'm not sure if there is a smaller one that is less painful. They simply shoot gel up your penis hole(urethra). I was worried they would stick needles in my shaft. I think if it numbed the pain to do that it might have been better. It was extremely difficult to pee after the exam. I advise that you urinate immediately before the numbing agent wears off. I read to drink a bunch of water too, but I don't know about all that because it hurts like hell to pee for a day or so.
