Transmitting an infection this way is quite possible. I would think that the molluscum virus might be one of the more easily passed ones. The way any STD would be passed this way would be for the partner to to have gotten the infection on their hands and transmitted it to you. For example, if they have gonorrhea, they would need to get some of the infected discharge on their hands and then get that discharge to the tip of your penis/vagina. For the viruses that can get in through the skin, things are a little simpler - dry contact might do it. Best bet for prevention, other than not engaging in sexual things, is to wash hands and genitals thoroughly both before and after.
