i gave my boyfriend oral sex with a sore throat...

So I gave my boyfriend oral sex when i had a sore throat and now for the past four days he's been complaining about redness on the tip of his "thing". He says it hurts really bad and it won't stop. What can he do to make it go away? What is it? Does he need medical attention? PLEASE HELP!
