Re: testicular cancer cok upHi, My name is Tracey, my brother was diagnosed with tc in June 2009, he was told it was in his chest and 2 spots on his lung. Doctor said the had to get busy and hit it hard with chemo because it was a fast spreading cancer. He has been doing chemo every since with very few breaks in between. He has had a hard time with chemo and radiation. If you do not mind me asking how did you deal with all of it and what type of treatment did you undergo. Do you have any suggestions for me so I could possibly help relieve his pain and discomfort?
Re: testicular cancer cok upI had TC (seminoma) in 1999. I had a radical orchiectomy followed by five weeks of radiation to the abdominal/pelvic area. The doctors said there is no signs of cancer and no further treatment was called for in my case.
On a follow up visit in 2000, a tumor was found on my lung - the seminoma was back and I would need chemo. My treatment was three rounds of BEP (Bleomycin, Etoposide, Cisplatin) followed by a forth round of EP (no Bleo). The treatments were very rough. About the only thing you can do is encourage him. Help him look forward to time when he will be well again. This was in the fall/winter, so I told myself that by next summer the treatments would be over, and I would be well again and have my life back. The drugs make you digestive system raw. One of the few things I could eat was milkshakes, so my mom would bring me a milkshake every day. Another thing - and probably the most important - is I believe in the power of prayer. People came and prayed for me. My name was placed on the "prayer chain" of churches around town. I found the strength to face this, and I came to believe that God would bring me out of this and restore my health and He did. That was nine years ago now. I'm healthy and cancer free and it all just seems like a bad dream to me now. Tell him he can beat this thing, and this sickness is temporary, it will pass, he will be well again, and it will have all been worth it. God Bless. PS - his treatments should be about over now - correct? Write back with an update on his condition and the progress of his treatments.
