left testicular torsion? did I wait too long?

The incident in question happened ~72 hours ago. I was sitting in a chair and as I turned to get up I felt a small acute pain in my testicle. A small dull pain (about a 2 on a scale of 1-10) persisted for the rest of that day, but when I woke up the next morning my left testicle had swollen to twice the size of my other one and felt hard. The pain had increased to a 4 or 5 at that point and was located at the back of my testicle. The epididymis felt (and still is) tender and enlarged. ~48 hours after the initial incident the testicle was 2-3 times the size of my right one and the only relief I could get was from putting ice on it and not walking. Without the ice and bedrest my pain level had increased to a 6-7. Ice had an extreme effect on the pain level for ~2 hours after applying it. On the third day, as opposed to going to the ER and waiting for 4 hours probably to no avail (it is Sunday and the only place to go is the ER) I started experimenting with twisting the testicle to see if it was a torsion problem and if so to see if I could put it back in the correct position. Shortly after that the pain went down to a 1-2 and I can walk around almost like normal. However, the extreme swelling of the testicle itself and the epididymis is still present, and the residual pain is still located at the back of the testicle. The more I read about torsion on the internet the more scared I become as I mostly read that after 24 hours of torsion your chances of salvaging a usable testicle is small due to necrosis. Is my case more consistent with torsion or epididymitis? Should I still be seen by my doctor this week if the swelling persists even though the pain is almost gone? What should I do between now and then?
