fatigued

I just turned 50 and have always had a reasonably healthy sex drive and energy level, but now my energy is near-nil. For months, I’ve been battling some kind of fatigue which has gotten worse over the past 3 to 4 months. I could crash out on the couch at 630 in the evening for an hour, and I normally get 7-1/2 hours of sleep. Recently (past couple of weeks) it’s gotten bad enough where I could take a 30 minute nap at 11 am and then a 1 hour at 4. Waking up I feel hungover. I have had...Read the full article

Could be any of a multitude of causes. Could be lack of exercise, lack of healthy diet, mild depression, unhappiness at work, unhappiness in a relationship, or, as your doctor believes, low testosterone.

Expect to feel quite a bit better after 2-3 weeks, then a big crash as your own hormone production decreases, then a leveling out for the next few months, with steady, gradual increase in how you feel overall.

At least that is the general consensus for Testosterone replacement therapy, it seems. I can testify that is exactly the way it has been for my husband, who has now been on replacement therapy for 90 days.

That was in April. You have been on the new medication now for several weeks. Have you noticed any difference? No one says how long it should take when on new meds to notice anything different. My husband is just starting on some hormone replacement thereapy, a jell. He is elderely and much concerned about fatigue and I don't like his behavior. He is not very kind or loving. Is quick to become angry and is not affectionate at all. I can handle that but I still like him to know that I am his wife and not his room mate. Wonder if I will notice any difference and how long it will take. Dr. never addressed this issue at all. Was just concerned about his level of ambition which I do not feel was ever over the top.
