Re: Good resultsI am a 55 yr. old male diagnosed with low testosterone. My MD. prescribed Androgel which helped some, but the cost for Androgel (no insurance now) was too high to continue. I found another Dr. who prescribed testosterone cypionate which I self inject. After getting through the 1st injection, which I was more than a little apprehensive, it now is as easy as brushing my teeth. In fact,I take 2 injections per wk. which seems to work better for me. The main benefit is the self injections are much less expensive and work lots better. I think more men should be checked for testosterone deficiency rather than having numerous anti-depressants thrown at them which happened to me for yrs. before I found my T levels were very low. Re: Good resultsRando88,
I too am paying out of pocket, my first month's gel prescription was free from the manufacture however, going forward, it is $331 a month. I mentioned this to my Dr. and he was nice enough to give me some free samples to hold me over. At this point I'm just playing it by ear and I'll cross that bridge when I run out of these. But I too thought about the self injection method and was curious as to what you're monthly out of pocket expenses were? My doctor told me a single 200mg injection was about $15 and that was for a full month; but then again, I'm also on the daily gel. I know a lot of people do bi-monthly injections of 200mgs and I've even heard some say they break that into weekly injections of 100mg to minimize the "spiking" effects. So are you breaking that down further to 50mg twice a week? That to me would sound like the best way to go if you can self administer and not have to go to the doctors office each time you needed a shot.
Re: Good resultsHello Livingwith--I am prescribed 1 ml self injection per wk. from a 210ml/mg vial of testosterone cypionate. I found taking 1 half ml twice per wk. works better for me. The price for the 210ml/mg vial is about $160. This vial last me about 10 wks.( works out to about $16 per wk.) I use a 23 gauge, 1 and 1 half in. syringe, which I bought 20 yesterday for $9. I give the injection on each ass cheek, which is almost painless. So it is much less expensive than Androgel, and I feel it works much better than the gel. (This forum will not let you post other web sites, but if you google the name Dr. E Barry Gordon and watch some of his videos (free) he will give some of the best advice on T deficiency that I have found) Best of Luck, Rando88
