treatment for low TLong story short, I'm a 52 yo male, 2 years ago I had my testosterone checked, it came back at 108 and my FH was extremely low. After learning of the symptoms of low T I felt I should have been tested 10 years ago. I was given the choice between T replacement (via gels, shots or patches) or I could try to elevate it naturally by taking Clomid (clomiphene citrate), yes Clomid, the fertility drug, it works in males by stimulating the pitutary. After hearing stories about replacement I opted for trying to have my body do it. I have had remarkable results. My T has gone from 108 to 465 and I feel the best I have in years and there are no highs and lows as with replacement. I've lost weight, my cholesterol has dropped and energy plus.
Two caveats... 1.) there are studies around that imply that men with low T who increase their T by either method AND have an 'increase' in HDL may have CVD (cardiovascular disease). My HDL actually dropped a little. 2.) There is a belief in the medical community that increasing T in men with low T may cause prostate cancer, however, new studies suggest that low T masks the existence of prostate cancer by artifically reducing PSA so that when T is increased the PSA increases if prostate cancer is present.
Re: treatment for low TI'm 56 and the research I've done has supported your actions. I believe that most doctors will not accept the fact that instead of replacement use an estrogen blocker to achieve natural testosterone increase. I'm glad it is working for you. I'm afraid that my doctor will not even let me try because he doesn't believe it would work. The only thing I can do is ask. I understand that Nolvadex(Tamoxifen) works the same but the price is lower. I'm going to my Internist for physical and get more tests and probably get referred to a Urologist or an Endo. My T is 323 and my free T is 59 which are both on the low side of normal range. My PSA is 1.3 whch is good. I'm sure I have to get my estrogen and more blood tests.I have all the symptoms of low testosterol so I know I need help. I'm just not sure what to do. If they won't treat me with the estrogen blockers than I probably will go with injections. What do you think I should do??? Thanks
