Brain surgery, cause of bladder problems?

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Nov 09, 2005 10:12 am

I had brain surgery back in 2000 for a tumor in the 4th ventrical. In which severl nerves were cut, leaving me with nerve palsy. I have had bladder problems ever since then a mixture of both, retention and over flow. I talked with serverl doctors about my problem they recommend to me that I self cath. It works ok but at times I get rather tender, and find it hard to do. Question is would having an indewlling cather such as a foley be better and allow me a bit more of a active life insed of having to stop in the middle of something to preform my self cathing? I am aware of the risks of an indwelling cather and the seem to be close to the same as self cathing, and are far less sever then any surgery, please you opinion matters greatly to me!
Thank you

Self cathing is definitely the way to go as opposed to an indwelling foley which can ruin your bladder , cause stones, will cause infection , and had the chance of causing bladder cancer, on all accounts self cath is safer
