incontinence?

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Jul 14, 2003 1:35 am

I'm only 19 and i've always had a problem with peeing my pants a lot. I don't think i have an incontinence problem because i don't have to pee all the time or anything. I just have a problem controlling my bladder. But anytime i start to laugh real hard i always have to rush to the bathroom, but there's no stopping the urine from coming out too soon. I don't know what I can do for this problem. Can someone help me?

Incontinence does not mean that you have to go to the bathroom all the time. I had a similar problem when I was a teenager and didn't tell anyone about it, because I felt it was something too embarrassing to talk about. When I finally talked to my OB/GYN doctor regarding this (at age 39!), he sent me to a urologist. If you have a regular doctor, don't hesitate to mention to him or her what is happening. From the way you describe yourself, it is possible that you might have mixed incontinence (stress and urge), which is what I have. It is really helpful to have a doctor who listens to you and who you feel comfortable with. If payment is a problem, most doctors will work with you to help you out financially, too.

I am 21 and have frequent urination. More so if I drink alcohollic beverages. I have to make frequent urination breaks.. and i sometimes wake up having wet the bed. it does not happen all the time though. I have looked and done research , i am pretty sure that it is overactive bladder incontinence. That is what makes the most sense. Anyways it is very embarassing, lowers ones self-esteem and I SHOULD NOT be having this problem at this age. i want to seek help.. but money is an issue. CAN ANYONE HELP ME.. I have read treatments etcv.. and i WANT AND AM WILLING TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET OVER THIS PROBLEM. TO CURE IT.. I DO NOT WANT TO COPE WITH IT NOR LIVE WITH IT ANYMORE. Damaged too many peopl's property because of it.

can anyone help me?
sincerely, no self-esteem anymore

It does sound like you have an overactive bladder however usually wetting the bed is not a symptom. You should probable get examined by a urologist that specializes in incontinence. In the meantime you can try doing Kegels and squeezing your sphincter muscle a couple of times when you get the urge to urinate. If you can go to a free or low cost clinic they can check your urine to make sure there is no blood in it, which may indicate another problem. Also if they (your doctor) deem it appropriate you can ask for a medication called Imipramine (low cost generic medication) 10 mg twice a day which may help, 10 mg at night is often used for kids that wet the bed. Good luck.

Does anyone know will a urologist see you or even help you if you do not have insurance. payment plans etc..

I would check with your local hospital, they may have a free clinic or a program that would allow you to be examined.
