Post RP Incontinence and INTERSTIM

Post a new topicby bfred1 on Thu Sep 11, 2008 1:42 pm

I underwent Radical Prostatectomy in Nov 07. I have been incontinent since removal of catheter. I have undegone 3 months of stimulation therapy and bio feedback resulting in about 50% improvement. Recent urodynamics test revealed: strong pelvic muscles, some mixed incontinence and significant bladder over pressure. Urologist believes that bladder is the problem. Urologist does not believe i am a candidate for sling. Urologist has recommended INTERSTIM implant to calm and control bladder.

Question is: Has anyone in a similar scenario had the INTERSTIM implant? What are results?

Thank you

Hi,

I had the interstim in 06. It helped 95% and I was thrilled with it. I was not told how long the post op recovery time was. I was released to return to work in 2 weeks. Six weeks after my surgery I lifted my dog. She had had a stroke. The interstim immediately stopped working. I called the medtronic rep and he told me recovery time took 8 weeks.
I would have the surgery but be very careful during recovery.
