Prostate cancer treatement complications

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Dec 22, 2005 8:00 pm

Hello,

My father, now 76, had undergone seed implantation and radiation treatment earlier this year for early stage prostate cancer (PSA 4). It's been over 9 months and he's still suffering from the side effects of the treatment. He can't urinate since the radiation therapy is causing the lining of his urethra to slough off clogging it up. He also still has seeds coming out on occassion. He's been to see two different urologists. Both performed scrapings to clear the passage way but things are just not clearing up. He's lost alot of weight, is always tired and depressed, has a catheter that he inserts a few times a day to try to keep the passage open for urination and gets frequent infections from it. He's also suffering from incontinence without the catheter and has chronic lower abdominal pain. He recently complained that one of his testicles is swollen. His current urologist is scratching his head over this one and claims that he's never seen a case like his. Has anyone else experienced this type of thing and if so, what did you do and how long did it take to recover to a more comforable state?

Thank you so much for any information or suggestions you can provide. We are so worried for him.

Hard to know, but it might have been too much radiation or radiation in the wrong place, i.e. close to the sphincter which keeps us dry. Good luck to you and your father
