It sounds like it may be similar to what I use (but I am guessing here). 'Waterfall D-Mannose', it works by causing the bacteria to latch onto it instead of them attaching to the mannose that appears naturally in your own body, thus they are tricked into thinking that they have a new place to live and multiply but instead they are flushed out of your body the next time you urinate. As for the sex thing, if you have any bacteria that has hidden its self behind the bladder wall (this often happens when you use anti-biotics as they burrow in to get away from the anti biotic) they are shaken out of hiding during sex which explains why you were getting flare-up. It's also why you should take the product an hour before and immediately after, since it's important to clear up all of what's there.

I hope that this helps to clear things up for you.

Chiyaki.
