Proteus Mirabilis?

Post a new topicby runi4me on Sun Aug 02, 2009 2:07 am

So....this whole adventure started about a year ago when I became pregnant with my second child. I started having symptoms of UTI burning and frequency. I was placed on Keflex...problem solved. Not so much. I continued having the burning on and off. Went back to the OB, had a culture run and it came back as "Proteus Mirabilis." I was then placed on another a sulfur based antibiotic Septra (?). A month went by. More burning and now there is blood in my urine. L&D says they can't find anything so it must be kidney stones More cultures and more antibiotics. I had my daughter in Feb. of this year 4 weeks early due to complications of hydronephrosis....extreme right flank pain and more bloody urine. 2 weeks post-partum I had a cystoscopy that ruled out structural abnormalities, stones or other blockages. Urologist prescribed premarin and said things should "feel better" within the month. Since then I've had 2 bouts of bacterial vaginosis and just received lab work to indicate a "heavy growth proteus mirabilis isolated." Could this bacteria be causing the CONSTANT burning I feel in and around my bladder? What course of treatment is usually prescribed? I'm an otherwise healthy 30 YO woman, 6 months post-partum no longer nursing. Any guidance is much appreciated :)

Hello, I am not an expert to give medical advice and I am also undergoing UTI problems. I have been researching oil or oregano (must contain 80% ocatnol or something similar) and I found alot of forums with people saying it worked for proteus infection which is often antibiotic resistant. I have ordered some and dont know yet if it will work for me but it could be worth a try out!!

best of luck
