UTI?

Post a new topicby screenscribe on Sat Sep 29, 2007 6:53 am

I am 56, healthy, no history of urological problems except for one flareup during chemo 4 years ago. Three weeks ago I suddenly got a "sensitivity" when urinating, only then, not between, and always plenty of urine. Went on for a week, I drank a little cranberry juice, lots of green tea and water, took calcium citrate and goldenseal, just a little. It went away for a whole week then 6 days ago it was back, same thing, though I am now conscious of a sensitivity some of the time, not just when urinating. It's nothing, no pain, just feels like an itch that doesn't need to be scratched. I called a doctor I haven't been to (I don't have one here yet) and she said go get a urine test and if it's an infection they'll put you on antibiotics. (It's the weekend and she couldn't take me right away.) This just doesn't seem serious enough to do that and yet I don't want it to get worse. I can't tell from reading on the web if it's okay to wait this out or not. I want to try focusing on doing all the natural remedies I can, but not if it's dangerous. If there are no other symptoms, doesn't that mean the problem isn't bad? Or can it be bad without symptoms? Discharge has always been clear though on a couple of days there was a strong fishy smell. I had been taking 3000mg fish oil as a new nutrition aid, could that have caused the smell? Thanks.

I assume you are female and the discharge is vaginal. Fish oil should not account for the odor of the discharge. You may have a vagina infection especially if you are sexually active. Urinary tract infections can be treated depending on the type and severity with cranberry juice , etc. However if the symptoms progress then being evaluated by a doctor would be a smart idea, good luck

Please accept this as a polite update, not as me trying to knock you in any way, as I believe that anyone willing to try to help others in a forum should be thanked accordingly. x

From ALL the actual research that I've read, it seems that whilst Cranberry juice may have a slight element of 'mannose' in it that could provide a slight, but temporary relief from the symptoms of a UTI. However when it is metabolised it has a very acidifying effect on the urine and actually makes about 95% of the UTI causing bacteria replicate at nearly double their normal rate. So if you're taking it as a remedy for UTIs it will actually make things alot worse for you.

However, if you're drinking it as a non UTI sufferer simply because it's rather tastey, then enjoy :P xxx
