What does blood in the urine look like?

Post a new topicby 4georgejr on Fri Jan 02, 2009 3:35 pm

For the last few days my urine has been a little darker than normal but I did not consider that a problem might exist. However, this morning, it was very dark and I could phyically see the urine turn to to a darker brown color as I was urinating. It continues somewhat on the dark side today in the office. My diet and drinkiing over the last week, I thought might be the cause, knowing that I did not consume nearly the 2 liters of water I normally do daily. However, this morning has scared me.

Is this an emergency? Can I wait a couple days after rehydrating and being off the booze and see if it goes back to normal?

Thank You.

Blood in the urine can appear as pink, red, or brown urine. There is no way of kowing without a urinalysis. Increase your fluids to see if the color changes. Any pain or fever, or persistent change in urine color, see a doctor immediately.

If you drink alcohol like any of the whisky group, the inpurities in the drinks will cause the urine to appear as a dark amber color. Blood in the urine will appear dark red to scarlet. In any case, see a specialist to make certain.
