kidney stone 12x9mm will it pass

Post a new topicby toots1044 on Sun Sep 23, 2007 7:36 am

I have been diagnosed with a 12x9mm kidney stone in my tube. Have an appt for ureteroscopy on Oct 10th. I have minimal pain sort of like a toothache and now my urine is turning darker. I am scared to death as I have a needle phobia. The anesthetiologist told me that he will put me under with gas then insert the IV. I have read all the articles on the internet and I am in a state of complete panic. The I read about stents and their removal. Why oh why with advance medical treatment do people have to go through this amount of pain. Can this size of stone pass on its own? I have been drinking at least 75oz of water a day. toots1044

Usually the general cut off for passing a stone is 5mm, it is doubtful that the size you describe will pass on its own, good luck

Can anyone tell me how big is 12x9mm? Like a dime or nickle size? Just curious!

As stated previously I am scheduled for Ureteroscopy on Oct 10th, I feel rather odd today, don't know if I have a urinary track infection starting. Can they still do the Ureteroscopy if an infection is present? I have been on antibiotics for about two weeks. I am not running a fever, nor do I show blood in my urine, do not have chills. Could the antibiotics make me feel funny. I now have some pressure in right groin area and a dull ache I guess where my bladder is.

Ureteroscopy is not usually done with an active urinary infection since it could cause urosepsis. Antibiotics can cause "funny" symptoms in some patients and not others. The ache maybe caused by the stone moving down the ureter, the lower it gets the more you feel it in the bladder.

If there is an infection present when I go for Pre Op, what happens next, since I am already on antibiotics

As stated previously I have procedure scheduled for Oct 10th, this morning I woke up starting to have nausea with a little vomiting. I am still not having fever or chills, the pain is getting a little more uncomfortable. Should I contact my urologist or do you think I will be able to wait until Oct 10th.

I'm getting a little concerned, when I first went to the urologist he said could be kidney stone or kidney cancer. This is scaring me to death. So I called the Radiologist who stated that it was a stone, but I have lost 26lbs so far. Is that normal due to a kidney stone? It seems that I don't have much of an appetite but that could also be due to worry. I am fatigued but having this stone for a month and still will not have surgery for another week I believe it is taking its toll on me. The urologist did not ask for more tests only looked at the x-ray. Wouldn't you think if he thought it was cancer, he would order more tests to confirm it.
