new intermittent catheter userI'm a 49-year-old male with progressive multiple sclerosis Recently I have been having increasing difficulty urinating (DESD). Up until now, I have managed things by using uroxitrol and a condom catheter (for better aim). My urologist had instructed me about how to use an intermittent catheter if it ever became necessary. Three days ago, I couldn't urinate at all, and using an IC I drained 1200 mL. I know that you aren't supposed to use an IC only occasionally, since that will lead to more infections. I decided that maybe I should switch to it permanently. The very next time I tried, I had a lot of blood in the urine. Now I'm afraid to use it and afraid not to use it. I'll be calling my urologist tomorrow, but it's Sunday and I'm even worried about tonight. Thoughts?
