urine ph levels

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Dec 21, 2005 8:15 am

I have felt ill for a while, and many of my symptoms were accompanied by urinary problems such as red tinged urine, and significant decrease of output. I bought urinary ph strips to see if there was anything going on with my acid-base levels. SUre enough I was extremely acidic, low ph number of about 5. But then the next couple of days I took the tests everytime I urinated and the levels flunctuated enormously. I would have a 7.2, then about 7 hours later a 6.5 or 6.0 (I only urinate about 3 times in a 24 hour period). The next day I had a 6.5 that increeased to an 8 (or maybe even above that the test would not go past that).

Does anyone know what could account for these changes. I eat the same thing pretty much everyday. I do have Lupus but I do not get that significant of flair-ups, and I am not really having one right now. Could this be related at all to kidney function? I am in between Drs. (my dr. retired right after diagnosis and i am having trouble locating him for a referral to another specialist) and would appreciate any help.
Thanks.
