my name is melanie and im 21 years old,ive been noticing since i had my third child about a month ago, that theres a little peice of skin or tissue that sticks out and kind of looks like a tiny tounge at the bottom of my vagina opening.
ive googled this and found a few stories simular to mine. most answers were vaginal prolapse
i was wondering if this is a sign that i could have it, its makeing me nervouse because it was only tiny at first, then a few nights ago me and my boyfriend had sex and oral sex and thats when i noticed it was bigger, its a holiday today and i cant get a hold of my doctor ,plus it will be a few days before i can see her, im very nervous this could be a sign. Please tell me what you think.

Hi Melanie,

It is quite possible that you do have some kind of prolapse. If you have delivered three babies vaginally and you are noticing something "bulging" out of your vagina you could have either a rectocele, an enterocele, a cystocele or combination of either.

I have the same issue going on. I'm 37 years old and have had two children (17 y/o and 13 y/o). I first noticed a small bulging at the opening of my vagina (on the side closest to the rectum) back in December. As time went on it got bigger and bigger. Now, it literally is the size of my tongue!! LOL!! At the same time, I have had a lot of issues with bowel movements and urination. My PCP referred me to a surgeon who specilizes in pelvic floor disorders and I was diagnosed with grade II-III rectocele, grade II-III cystocele, grade I uterine prolapse, AND chronic interstitial cystitis. I will be having surgery sometime in June to repair the rectocele, cystocele, and uterine prolapse. The IC (interstitial cystitis) is currently being treated with bladder instillations of Elmiron.

Are you having any symptoms in addition to this bulging? Do you often feel as if something is "falling out" of your vagina, are you having problems with bowel movements (ie., do you have to push on your vaginal/perineal area to be able to "go") do you have an urge to urinate frequently or do you feel as if you can't empty your bladder all the way when you go? Is intercourse uncomfortable? I've had all of those symptoms. I would recommend making an appointment with your doctor. Make a list of any other symptoms and how long you've experienced them to take with you when you go. This will help your physician to correctly diagnose and treat you. Do you know how to do Kegel exercises? This will help to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles - and given your age you may be able to correct the prolapse with just those exercises. Even if it turns out that you don't have a prolapse those Kegel exercises are great for keeping sex more satisfying - for you and for him. ;) Definitely see your doctor though. Don't worry! :)

Good luck to you!!
