Varicocele Support Group?

Post a new topicby livingwith on Mon Sep 15, 2008 2:20 pm

Hi, I’d like to know if anyone else has the same problem as me. I was diagnosed with a varicocele on my left side just over a year ago. Since this time my left testicles has shrunk and feels like it’s being pulled back up into my groin, sometimes I awake at night in agony. This problem is ruining my life, I don’t understand why I have it as I’m healthy and fit, I’ve tried to take more supplements, cut out caffeine and alcohol and go to the gym 3 times a week. I don’t lift weights, b...Read the full article

I was the one that posted on Sept 10th that I had surgery. My varicocele was smaller when I first started having pain but within six months it became much larger and was visible by just looking at it. The veins were visible through my scrotum. My testicle had also shrunk quite a bit. I had surgery just over a month ago and the size has come back some. Mine was extremely painful but my testicle hung down about two inches lower than the right side. Before surgery when I ejaculated it would cause a terrible pain in my testicle. After the surgery I didn't have any pain in my testicle during or after sex from ejaculating, but the left one was extremely sensitive if it was bumped or even while I was walking. As time has gone on the sensitivity has decreased a bunch. So far so good. I was having pain all day and was also experiencing all of the symptoms of low testosterone before surgery. I have been feeling great and am glad every day I had it done.

The surgery really wasn't that bad. I have also been perfectly healthy my whole life, so this was the first thing I ever had done medically. At first I had to move very slow and not lift anything but I quickly improved. After a month all I have is a little numbness around the incision area into my thigh and my testicle is a little sensitive, which is supposed to go away after a couple of months. I did have to do almost nothing for the first two weeks and then do a little for the two weeks after that but now I am back to doing everything. I have a three inch incision scar to remind me how bad I felt before the surgery.

These things effect everyone differently from what I have read, so some guys have big veins with no problems and others have small ones that cause bad pain. Since most doctors are concerned with fertility there isn't much out there for the guy that is in pain.

Good luck, if you do have the surgery. Hopefully yours works as good as mine did. My doctor told me that surgery doesn't help everyone that is in pain but it does help a majority of them. If your current doctor says he can't help you. I had to go to two of them. Every doctor has a different way of doing things and their opinion of what works.

Hi Jeepin,

Your post has really helped me a lot. It has relieved me from unwanted tension I took post my varicocele surgery. I underwent a surgery before 2 weeks and still I am feeling some pain in the left testicle when it is touched/bumped. Things have certainly improved post the surgery but some numbness is stil there near the incision area upto the left thigh along with pain in left testis when bumped. As per your posts now all these things seem quite normal and I am expecting things to get much more finer as days progress. I will update this post in next few days and months.
