Suspected varicocele, need advise

Post a new topicby JimF on Thu Jul 02, 2009 10:59 pm

In March I went to family doctor for treatement of a urinary infection and possible epididymitis and an antibiotic prescribed. It felt like the epididymis was still tender and swollen and my doctor said I would have to see a urologist. I went to a urologist I had been to previously and he examined me and just told me to give it time and it should clear up on it own. He said I could get an ultrasound done but he did not think it was necessary. About a month later I called the urologist and told him did not seem to be any better so he prescribed another antibiotic. Two weeks later I contacted the doctor again and this time he sent me for a ultrasound. He told me the results showed a epididimal cyst and varicose vein. I had told him I started to notice a warm sensation on the left side where these problems had been located. I saw the doctor for another exam in early June and base on the ultrasound he said there was nothing serious wrong and he did not say what might be causing the warm feeling I was experiencing especially when sitting. I find that when I am standing I do not feel the unusual warmth in the area. He did say surgery was an option but he still did not think it was anything to consider right away. I waited a few weeks more now late June and called him again to say there was no improvement, he prescribed another antibiotic which I took but I did not think it would help. I have been looking up information on this condition and it sounds to me like it is a varicocele I want to try to see a different urologist but I can't get an appointment until later in August with one but I do not think I can go on like this that long. At times the feeling seems to be getting warmer and still goes away when standing and it also does not bother me when sleeping. Does anyone have some advise on my problem I think I really something should be done right away especially since I have been dealing with this for so long already.

Your doctor has prescribed you three antibiotics, and it doesn't sound like he wants to do much other than fill out prescriptions. Find out what the antibiotics are typically used for, becuase it needs to be something powerful enough to reach the sex organs. Something like Cipro. Research the doctors in your area, find a good one, if it takes a while to get an appointment that usually means that they are a good doctor. When you go in to talk to him say this....it worked for me. "Look, I've seen too many doctors who pretend to listen to me, and hear what they want to hear. I'm here to find out what is wrong, and do something about it. If you aren't going to listen, and pay attention to what I have to say, then tell me right now and I will leave." I've done this before with several doctors, and usually after I say it, they close their little folder, set it down on the counter, and pay attention.
If you need an earlier appointment, call them frequently asking if there have been any cancelations, and try to bump yourself up. If you annoy them enough, they'll just try to find you a spot.
Make your Doctor work FOR YOU!
good luck
