Veins big - should I get surgery?

Post a new topicby chal on Thu Oct 04, 2007 11:29 pm

It just happened yesterday. Reflecting, I think I had them all along, but always thought it was "normal". Now, after some trauma, the vessels are as large as the diamter of a pecil eraser. Some twinges of pain. Dr. says to wait it out 4-6 weeks. The ultrasound showed good blood flow. I'm concerned that the vessels are so big they would break or that my sperm count could be affected. What do you think? Is it maybe time to have it corrected? If so, what does that involve in terms of expertise and money? Thanks.

Varicocele of enlarged veins happen the same way the ones in your legs form, the valves in the veins fail allowing blood to pool. The increase in temperature caused by the pooling of blood can effect sperm development. However having said that varicoceles are very common in men and only effect the sperm in some men. You should be examined by a urologist and discuss your situation.
