Post a new topicby tolergl on Sun Dec 28, 2008 11:46 pm

I went in for a vasectomy I am 55 my wife is 40 we just had are second child and I have to stepchildren. I was in the doctors office and he start the procedure and was able to find the van deferens on the left side and cut and stiched but then for the next 30 minutes he searched for the van deferens on the right side and could not find it and told me it may already closed or not connected but if it still is I will need to go under the knife again but this time totally knocked out and cut open to find it. I have never heard of this poblem before never discussed this before it happened can't find anything on the web about it either.

This is not unusual. It has happened to me twice in my career and to my partner just last week. Occasionally one vas is so small that it cannot be distinguished from a vessel or nerve, but in the operating room a slightly larger incision can be made and all those structures visualized carefully to do a good vasectomy. It is unfortunate, but everyone's anatomy is not the same. Safety is the name of the game.
