Good News, vasectomies do not cause erectile dysfunction. They do not alter testosterone, the male hormone that causes sexual desire and arousal, nor do they have any chance of injuring the nerves or blood supply that cause erections. This means that it is all in your head, the one above your shoulders. Also you maybe a bit sore in the area. Since you need to follow up with your doctor to make sure you are shooting blanks, two negative tests (semen analysis) are suggested, ask for a sample of Viagra, Levitra, or Cialis. I would try the 20 mg Cialis assuming you have no contraindications like heart disease. This should augment your erections and get you back in the saddle.

I also went through a period of erectile dysfunction or impotence after I had my vasectomy and I thought it was related to the vasectomy. Just like urodoc says, the problem was all in my head. Back when I had my vasectomy and encountered this problem, there were no drugs like Viagra or Cialis yet available, but the problem eventually went away on its own. And knowing there was no risk of pregnancy during sex helped a lot. Looking back, I think it took some time to trust that the vasectomy had worked and that a condom was no longer necessary.
