Testosterone Deficiency

Hi ! I cannot express how happy I am to find this forum. I am glad that I found a place where I can talk about my situation where I beleive that I have a testosterone deficiency I just turn 53 this year, most of my friends told me that I look younger than my age. I started taking maintenance medicine for High blood pressure about 5 years ago. My BP is not really high but my doctor recommended me to take Tenormin 50 mg daily to prevent any increase in my BP. Anyway, my BP has been under control since but I noticed a gradual decrease in my sex drive. Also, I cannot have a full erection, in short, I cannot function sexually as I used to do. This is really embarassing for me and it made my mood bad most of the time. I felt depressed that I cannot function sexually with my wife anymnore. I felt like more than half of my well being has been taken away from me.
I want to take medical help but I dont know which kind of doctor I should go to. Should I go to a UROLOGIST or to an ENDOCRINOLOGIST to consult my problem ? I am really serious in seeking medical help soon ! I just pray to GOD that there will still be some solution to my present problem.
To anyone who will reply to my question here, I'd like to thank you in advance..and may all who have the same problem as mine here find a suitable solution as well. Cheers !

I'm exactly where you are. I'm 56 and have been good up until about 6 months ago. When you go to your doctor just explain your symptoms and tell the doctor you want a testosterone blood test. When results come back and if it is low or low normal tell the doctor to treat you or refer you to either specialist they both can be good. I'm praying for you and me because it would be nice to be normal again. :):)

Who knows, maybe it is age, maybe it is a reaction to your BP meds, only a doctor can tell you for sure. Start with your primary doctor, tell him everything you told us, and if he cannot help you, he will point you in the right direction at least. To do nothing is to accept a lack of a sex life at 53. How does your wife feel about that? Probably not too good unless she's 93. You are too young to accept this loss in your life and marriage. See your doctor and here's hoping for the best!
